Tom Kohn, owner of The Bop Shop record store and Bop Arts, Inc., the nonprofit Tom formed to help bring music that we would otherwise not likely hear in Rochester, is bringing back the Willem Breuker Kollektief on Thursday, November 6th at 8:00 pm ($20 donation requested) at The Bop Shop Atrium at the Village Gate, 274 N Goodman St. in Rochester.
Breuker and the Kollektief have been here numerous times since 1991. Take a chance and come out to hear the unique musicianship of this ensemble in the casual and great sounding space in the Bop Shop Atrium.
If you'd like a taste of them live, check out this video from 1994 in Amsterdam, and this one from 2000 from who knows where. While they're both a bit dated and this group is not known for staying in one place year after year, they give you an idea of their wild and inspired music.
Some other upcoming Bop Shop and Bop Arts programs:
- Amanda Monaco 4, November 11th (Bop Shop Atrium)
- Scorgies Reunion (not a jazz event, but many have great memories of this club, although some may be hazy), November 21st (German House).
- Rudresh Mahanthappa's Indo-Pak Coalition, December 4 (Bop Shop Atrium).
By the way, you should also check out the Bop Shop's new website, which has been completely re-organized.
