Jazz Around Town: As the summer wanes, there still some jazz in Rochester

Jazz 1 way imageWe dodged the Irene bullet and I hope your loved ones east of here fared well....

A holiday weekend means a bit more barbequing, traveling and what not, but not as much jazz around town (although you can see there is something every night).

You can still vote for Jazz@Rochester in City's Best of 2011. Vote early, but contrary to my Chicago background, not often...Have a great Labor Day weekend!

Jazz Around Town: I quake at the amount of jazz in town...

So, did the earth move for you?  As a former dweller in Southern California, I tend not to feel them (not to mention the jackhammers going outside my office windows that day).

Shameless plug here...  Rochester City Newspaper is kicking off their "primary voting" today to get the candidates for their Best of 2011 edition. While I don't profess to be the best blogger out there (I consult with others on bloggin and know how much more I could do with this blog if I had the time), I think Jazz@Rochester serves a purpose for those of you who love jazz and want to know what's playing around town. Jazz@Rochester was in City's Annual Manual this year, so weirder things have happened.... So get out there and show that the audience for jazz is a bit larger than anyone knew.. Click on the image and go vote for Jazz@Rochester in Best Local Blog (#62) so we can at least be in the running later. Thanks.

There's more to Abbott's than frozen custard tomorrow ... Joey DeFrancesco and a Hammond B3

joey defrancescoI'm a big fan of the Hammond B3 organ and one of the best on the B3, Joey DeFrancesco, will be in Rochester tomorrow (Sunday) night and will be appearing at a new jazz haunt, Abbotts Custard & Kitchen Keg (yes, that Abbott's...), which has a house B3 along with the trademark frozen custard and (I expect) some other things to eat and drink. DeFrancesco will be there with Buffalo drummer Carmen Intorre and Rochester's Bob Sneider on guitar. Check out Ron Netsky's profile over at City.

There will be two shows at 7:00 & 9:00 PM. Tickets will be $25 ($20 students). You can find out more by calling 585-546-3116 or Address: Abbotts Custard & Kitchen Keg, 72 St. Paul Street (H.H. Warner Building). This isn't the first jazz at Abbott's Downtown (there was some there during the Jazz Fest), and I hope it won't be the last.

The image is one I took while catching DeFrancesco at Iridium in 2009 with Larry Coryell on guitar and Byron Landham on drums.

Jazz Around Town: Summertime ... and the living is easy?

As we head into the last few weeks of summer and the coming end of Festapalooza, things are a bit light this week. However, you can see the great Hammond B-3 organist Joey Defrancesco on Sunday AND eat Abbott's frozen custard ... now that's livin! Check out the listing below.

Hey, I wanted to remind you that at the bottom of this post there are many ways to share it with your friends and followers, or you can connect with Jazz@Rochester by clicking on one of the icons at the top of the middle column.

Jazz Around Town: While it has cooled down in ROC (at least today), the jazz is still hot...
