Coming home ... Exodus to Jazz brings Joe Locke back to Rochester on April 20th
April 15, 2013
Coming home again, Rochester-area native Joe Locke is playing two sets for Exodus to Jazz at the Hochstein Performance Hall on Saturday, April 20th at 8:00 pm.
Locke is one of the pre-eminent musician playing the jazz vibraphone, performing and recording with a very wide range of musicians, including (to name just a few) Grover Washington Jr, Kenny Barron, Eddie Henderson, Cecil Taylor, Dianne Reeves, Ron Carter, The Beastie Boys, and the Münster Symphony and Lincoln, Nebraska Symphony orchestras. I've seen Joe play at least five times and he brings new and exciting groupings and approaches every single time I hear him. This time will be no different...
Joe appears this time with his “Blues & Ballads” project with Ryan Cohan on piano, Jaimeo Brown on drums, and Lorin Cohen on bass. This is a pre-release concert to support Joe's a new disc, Lay Down My Heart (affiliate link), which is available for pre-order on Joe's online store). Here's a post on Joe's own blog about the concert and the album that you should check out.
Joe Locke will play two one-hour sets with 20-minute intermission. The festivities will begin shortly after the doors open at 7:00 pm with local group Culture Clash, led by noted saxophonist and RIT professor Dr. Carl Atkins, who will welcome everyone with jazz arrangements influenced by a range of world cultures.
