We welcome 2015 with ... what else?... live jazz (Jazz in ROC, January 1-7)

jazz sign

Welcome to the year 2015 in jazz in Rochester! Nice how the transition between years fit with my posting schedule.  As expected, it's a bit light, but you can always find something out there!  Come back to check if you don't find anything the first time.

My New Year's resolutions include trying to get out and hear a lot more live jazz and I hope you join me in that promise. What are your jazz resolutions?

Open the link below (if you're not reading this in an email) to find the live jazz in and around the ROC for the next seven days...

There is some jazz around ROC even during the holidays!

Sitting here on Christmas Eve, listening to the CBS LP Jingle Bell Jazz (I'm afraid it's only available in vinyl, but still available from Amazon!—click on image—and perhaps other fine purveyors of vinyl...). It's a working holiday for my lovely wife and I, so have some time to bang out the listings post tonight.

Like all holiday times, I expect I'm missing a lot of special holiday stuff the artists and venues both think the other are advertising, so check back here and I'll add any that I find later. It also means that some of the ones listed, especially tomorrow and on New Years Eve, will not be happening, so it is good to call first before heading out. Anything listed for Christmas Day is something I actually saw a listing for elsewhere or heard about directly from the venue or artist.

Oh, and remember that you have until the end of the year to buy a Club Pass for the 2015 Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival at the lowest price it will be available.  Click here to buy....

Time to riff on some links... the Holidays edition

Riffing The Links imageI'm always on the prowl for new ways to connect and provide you with jazz-related links that I've either come across or have been made hip to recently ...

I'm always finding new jazz links to put out there for you. They won't always get into these posts, but I'll usually share them on the Jazz@Rochester Twitter or the Facebook pages. If you have a jazz link to share here with the Rochester jazz community and beyond, send us an email by clicking on the Contact Us button below the banner

Live jazz from now until right up to when the fat man comes (Jazz in ROC, December 17-24)

Amazon cover imageWell, it's time to break out the Christmas jazz albums. One of my favorites is the Blue Note album to the right (affiliate link). What are yours (leave a comment...)?

Like all holidays, I expect I'm missing a lot of special holiday stuff the artists and venues both think the other are advertising, so check back here and I'll add any that I find later. It also means that some of the ones listed, especially those next week, will not be happening, so it is good to call first before heading out.  Oh, as expected, it's pretty light....

Stay indoors ... hear jazz! (Jazz in ROC, December 11-17)

Jazz 1 way

As our first appreciable snowfall drifts outside as I write this, the mind turns to staying indoors. Guess what, in the winter I hear that's where the jazz is!

If you want to hear Dianna Krall in the Big House on the opening night of the Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival and didn't get tickets, then you're in luck. XRIJF announced a matinee (4pm) performance for that June 19th show. Tickets go on sale in all the usual places on Friday, December 12th at 10:00 am.
