Get a pre-XRIJF jazz fix on (and get some sun) at Fairport Canal Days, June 3-5

image from www.fairportcanaldays.comThis year's Fairport Canal Days is coming next Friday-Sunday, June 3-5. The music at FCD continues to skew well toward jazz and featuring local jazz artists. FCD remains committed to featuring local talent—from school bands to emerging local artists and groups, to the very best world-class professionals who call the Rochester area home and those hailing from beyond our area. I've added all of the listings received from the folks at FCD below. As always, FCD is an all volunteer, family-friendly, non-profit festival where all proceeds remain within the community.

While I won't be there to join you (I'm still in Wichita, KS), I hope you get out for it. I went last year and had great time (and got my first sunburn of the season).

Here (after the fold) is the music lineup for Friday night through Sunday afternoon:

I miss you and ... live jazz in Rochester, May 26th through June 1st

Jazz sign

I'm in Wichita, Kansas, indefinitely with my father who is on home hospice. So far have dodged the tornadoes that are hitting this area of the country a bit too much for my taste. A month out now, I am missing Rochester (and my lovely wife, who is missing me..I think...despite loving her "alone" time). While there's some great jazz in and around Rochester this week, I'm already starting to see the inevitable slow down preceding the XRIJF.  I'll try to get some posts out about the upcoming festival, but may be missing attending it this year. You can probably understand why I hope that I will not be able to make it .... But this week, the show must go on, so here's the live jazz in and around Rochester for the next seven days.

For those local jazz artists who will be playing in town during the festival, I hope you'll let me know about your gigs so I can get them in the listings, which do not include the XRIJF listings since they're covered well elsewhere. Perhaps sign up for my local jazz artists email list if you haven't already so you get my reminders on when I need your gigs?

After the "fold" (click the link if there is one for you) you will find the next seven days of live jazz in and around Rochester. As always, let me know if any regular gigs below are no longer happening or if you have heard of anything that's not in the listings. Check back later in the week for stragglers.

Although I'll be missing it, there will be some great ... live jazz in Rochester, May 19-25

Jazz signSorry to start off with bad news, but as I'm sure many of you know, local jazz trumpeter Paul Smoker died Saturday afternoon at 75. He played right up to the end as Jeff Spevak noted in his profile in the D&C yesterday and Ron Netsky's in City. Although I had heard Paul play a number of times, I hope to have a post by someone who knew him better later in the week.

WGMC Jazz 90.1's Jazz Cruise tickets for this summer are on sale now here.  Also, XRIJF has a new app for the festival, which is available for download here.

I'm still out of town, leaving Kansas for a few days to go to my niece's high school graduation in Colorado. Will be back in Wichita by Sunday. Unfortunately missing some great jazz this week.

Are the lilacs in bloom? Even if not, there is ... live jazz in Rochester, NY for May 12-18

Jazz 1 Way signWell, I'm still out of town, but things are pretty good jazz-wise in ROC.  Apologies to my email and feed subscribers for the glitch in the coding last week, which caused the feed not to fire and I didn't notice that the emails didn't go out until Sunday. Then, of course, when we fixed it, the feed fired and the Wednesday post went out on Sunday. Oh well....

As always, let me know if any regular gigs below are no longer happening or if you have heard of anything that's not in the listings. Check back later in the week for stragglers.

Go hear some more jazz amongst yourselves ... live jazz in Rochester, May 5-11

Jazz Club signI'm out of town for awhile, so you'll have to go out and hear live jazz amongst yourselves for the foreseeable future. But don't worry, I'll still be doing the posts...
