How I Learned to Love Jazz ...A guest post by Frank A. Salamone

Welcome WGMC'ers to our comprehensive listings of ... live jazz in Rochester, NY, February 15-21 (now with more...)

b&w jazz sign

This is the first post after WGMC Jazz 90.1 and JazzRochester launched a partnership where their Club Calendar is now a direct link to JazzRochester.  For new visitors from Jazz 90.1, here's the deal.  JazzRochester, as implied by its name, has for more than a decade published these weekly listings focused on live jazz in the city and surrounding area (plus some selected acts appearing in and near Buffalo, the Finger Lakes, Ithaca and Syracuse).  WGMC, however, also included some other types of music in its Club Calendar--blues and some roots music.  As I don't want to leave those Jazz 90.1 patrons in the dark, I'll work to add listings for those as well. They'll be in a separate section you'll see below. Please bear with me as we adjust to that new area and note that for now I cannot be as comprehensive in those areas as I am for the live jazz in the area.  I'm looking forward to our partnership with Jazz 90.1. When you're ready to go back to Jazz 90.1 site, just click on their logo in the right panel.

Join our mailing list or following us on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram....I collect as much of the live jazz in and around Rochester as I can find so you don't have to do it yourself ... right here, every Wednesday in JazzRochester. I really need your help to grow a more vibrant community for live jazz here in Rochester by sharing this post or this site with those you know who love live jazz.  Share with the buttons! As always, let me know if any gigs below are no longer happening, if I got something wrong wrong, or if you have heard of something that's not in these listings that I can add.   NOTE (2/15): As a lot of the venues repeat (and some of the artists), I tend to copy last week's post and use that as a basis for the new post.  On Wednesday there was a glitch and, due to an observant reader commenting below ... what Laura Dubin's doing that Eastman House gig I saw last week again?... I found out that many of the items that I had deleted had returned to the listings post.  I was focused elsewhere apparently and didn't notice.  I think I've caught them all below and hang my head in shame (at least all of them are in the future...).  Thanks, Tom!

We've compiled these listings from information obtained from our own knowledge of the jazz scene in and around Rochester, the performing artists themselves and other sources. The aim is to give you a one-stop place to find all your live jazz in and around Rochester. Click on the links (underlined words or phrases) where available in the post for more information on the gig.  Only music start times are listed, so visit or call the venue for more details about when the doors open, etc. (the websites for many of the venues are in the right panel). Check back as I will add any gigs I hear about after publication (look for the added image  graphic next to the listing). Lastly, please forgive me where these listings prove to be wrong, I rely on you, the venues and the artists to let me know when we've got bad information, so don't hesitate to let us know about such departures from reality by clicking on the Contact Us link above.
