Well, time to start the other 356 days of the year after an excellent Rochester International Jazz Festival (210,000 this year...).  The schedule for the next week is light, which is not surprising after the festival (plus, I forgot to remind everyone to send their listings in as I'm still recovering from nine days of late nights, street food and a few too many "beverages."

The live jazz doesn't stop elsewhere around Rochester during the CGI Rochester International Jazz Festival. So, I continue to share the local area live jazz that will be outside the festival footprint (and sometimes a few within, but not part of the festival). The CGI Rochester International Jazz Festival begins on Friday! I've been publishing my picks for the festival, but you be you and get out there to hear what you want to hear . . . .

As you can see, as the buzz starts for the RIJF starts to kick into gear, there is a lot less out there in the coming week. Fairport's Canal Days is coming soon on June 3-5. Spread out over the village of Fairport, Tim Forster and the others responsible for the music at FCD usually serve up a healthy helping of jazz from local musicians and often describe it as the "jazz festival before the jazz festival."  If you get good weather, this is a great place to hang and hear some great music and stretch those RIJF muscles a bit (it's only 3 weeks away!). There is other music at Fairport Canal Days, so check out the lineup when you hit the festival to catch other great local musicians. I'm hoping to get out on Saturday, so look for me in a JazzRochester t-shirt (I'm taking orders if you're interested).

Please note that I will not be adding Rochester International Jazz Festival appearances in these listings. As in the past, I will do a special preview post prior to the festival that will bring together all of the appearances at RIJF by local jazz musicians and groups.
